Re: anyone ever eaten a durian.
Went to Malaysia some years ago with a friend who half his family are from there.

On arrival they were incredibly welcoming and brought me into the kitchen where they proceed to very proudly present this Durian to me and cut it open.

I literally had to leave the room as it smelt like a combination of rotting garbage and the worst fat known to man, probably offending them in the process! Didn't actually ever taste it as couldn't bring myself to eat something that smelt so vile.

They ban them on the Singapore underground too and I can see (or smell) why!

Re: anyone ever eaten a durian.
I've got one that is grey and I've had it for years, but it has not even begun to go off. The secret is that I have a painting of said fruit up in my loft, which shows it in a rotten old state, and magically rots more and more every day..........yes, I call it The Picture of Durian Grey.

Re: anyone ever eaten a durian.
I found it tasted ok, but kept burping this putrefying onion taste. I always dare myself to try it again, but can't.

I took some to work once that I had in my fridge overnight.. People 20 metres away were complaining about the smell thinking there was a leak.

Re: anyone ever eaten a durian.
Loads of myths about the fruit and most of them total bollocks. Smells awful, like raw sewage, but tastes nice. The only genuine danger, is if it falls on your head. The 'not with alcohol' myth, is about as real as its 'prolonged erection' one. It does have high sulphur and sugar content, so if you ate a great deal of it and drank a load of alcohol, it would take a long. Time to sober up.

Re: anyone ever eaten a durian.
My wife who is from Indonesia absolutely loves it, she can't enough of it when she is back home its about a pound for a massive durian over there.

You can only eat with water and fill the case of the fruit with water and drink that otherwise you get indigestion, if you drink with alcohol your stomach burns up.

I personally see no benefit in eating it it stinks like a babies nappy and has no health benefits that i have heard of.

I brought some Durian flavoured sweets into work once and the reactions when trying were hysterical it ended upbecoming a competition ie who could actually finish the sweet

Go on youtube and watch "durianrider".... you'll either love or hate him.

It's very good, not sure it is worth the smell or the hatred of others.

If it's only every five years, you're lucky. Imagine it came up every transfer window. Or every lunchtime.
